About the Artist

Amanda Russel has been working in Portland, Oregon as a freelance artist for the past ten years. She received her BFA in General Fine Arts in 2012 from Pacific Northwest College of Art, with a focus on painting and illustration.

Often tongue-in-cheek in her art, her specialities are figurative work and portraiture, both of people and animals. She loves playing with visual tension and works digitally, as well as using the traditional media of gouache, watercolor, colored pencil, charcoal, ink wash and pen, and acrylic.

Her work has been featured in Just Out, The Willamette Weekly, and New Mobility Magazine.

Amanda has experience creating album art, merchandising for performers, small murals, and doing poster art, fliers and posters for shows. She has illustrated a childrens’ book, taught art classes to residents in acute inpatient rehabilitation, and been the resident portrait artist for the queer storytelling night “Dark Night of the Soul.”
